The gorge of Samaria (for the laziest ones)

Φαράγγι Σαμαριάς τελευταία χλμ (last klm of Samaria Gorge)
The gorge of Samaria is 18 km long and is the longest gorge in Europe. It is a remarkable place in Greece and home to many species of birds and animals, the most famous of which is the Cretan wild goat (ibex).
The most common way to cross the gorge is to go early in the morning on the northern entrance to the plateau Omalos and then walk 5-7 hours and arrive after noon in the village of Agia Roumeli south. After with a boat you will be able to return to Sfakia (or Sougia rarely) from where you can continue your way by bus or by car.

The route through the gorge is very interesting and relatively easy.
One alternative option, for those who want to discover the gorge without having to spend the whole day or they don't like hours of walking a good idea is to visit the it "upside down". That is the south entrance and steepen a few miles to the north. In this case, of course you are not proposed to cross all over the gorge because that will be very tedious (due to uphill), but to settle for the last kilometer until the last organized point of rest in the gorge. In this route you will actually meet and the "doors" which is one of the most characteristic points of the canyon. Also, this part of the gorge is smoother and is suitable even for young children. If especially you have a car, you will be able to "steal" a few miles walking  from the village of Agia Roumeli and to the south entrance of the gorge.
